How to make paper snowflakes decorations ?

All these years , I never thought I must make paper snowflakes and share the tutorial on my blog because I found them to be too simple & cliche. Nevertheless, this year, I was short of time to set up my home for a small Christmas get together and decided to make paper snowflakes. And oh boy how wrong I was about it being easy! I tried innumerable times but I ended up with patterns that resembled cobwebs and I was totally frustrated. I had to check into multiple youtube channels and blogs to finally crack the secret code to making them and voila I made a couple of them in no time 🙂 So here is the secret recipe 🙂

Start out with thin papers like normal 70gsm printing papers. You need to fold them and cut through them so make sure its large enough and also thin enough. Start by cutting it out into square shape. Fold it into a triangle and then fold the triangle again into a smaller one.

Now is the part where you thank me for this idea 🙂 Fold the triangle again to make three equal parts. Do this by bringing in both the edges and adjusting such that the match into a single small triangle. Hope its clear from the below picture.

Once you get the shape, chop out the two tails and make a triangle.

Open just one of the fold and fold it backwards to make the folds in zig zag manner. Yes you are done with the folds and can now move on to the design. If you check on google for paper snowflake patterns, there are so many patterns shown so you can try any of them or even experiment with your own patterns. As for me, these patterns were not so intricate or difficult to cut out so you can try them if you liked them 🙂

The point is to cut out the middle portion and make patterns on both of the edges of the triangle. It will be interesting & pretty if you make one side patterns longer than the other so that the snowflake has alternate short and long pointed hands.

Easy right? Well I made couple of these and stuck them onto the window door of my living balcony. To make them more attractive, add sequins or glitter and they will really blow your mind 🙂 Aw my. It was so nice to see the twinkle fairy lights of my balcony through these paper snowflakes. It was indeed the most happiest scenes this christmas for me 🙂

Since I couldn’t click pictures for the blog, I made these paper snowflakes again, this time in colored papers and they are even more prettier to see on the walls 🙂

I also caught two blogs that used similar paper snowflakes for holiday gift wrapping & for holiday cards. Once you master the folds and cuts, I am sure you are going to have a real heavy snowfall at your place! Do let me know if you tried these and show me your design 🙂
